Before coming to the US, he was a licensed veterinarian in Syria. In 2001, Dr. Jakish moved to Seattle and began over four years of dedicated work as a technician at Pasado's Safe Haven and the Spay Station, caring for rescued animals and helping to provide low-cost spay and neuter services. He also volunteered for several months in Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina, a job that was at once heart-breaking and hopeful.
In 2008, he passed his final examinations for licensure as a veterinarian in the United States and subsequently completed the Certificate Program in Canine Rehabilitation through the University of Tennessee. Dr. Jakish is one of only a handful of veterinarians in the Pacific Northwest to have complete this program. Dr. Jakish is a member of the American Association of Rehabilitation Veterinarians. He and his wife share their home with three Huskies and two horses.
