Established in 1986, Animal Surgical & Orthopedic Center (ASOC) is a highly respected privately owned and operated surgical referral practice. Position Overview

As an Experienced Surgical Veterinary Assistant, you will be an essential member of our surgical team, assisting our surgeons and veterinary technicians in all aspects of surgical procedures, patient care and facility sterility. Your expertise and compassion will contribute directly to the success of our center and the well-being of our animal patients.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist surgeons in preparing for and conducting surgical procedures, including pre-operative setup, surgical instrument sterilization, and post-operative cleanup.
  • Monitor and ensure the comfort, safety, and well-being of patients before and after surgery.
  • Prepare surgical suites, equipment, and instruments for procedures, adhering to strict sterile techniques.
  • Provide post-operative patient care including walking patients outside, giving oral medications under the direction of veterinary technicians and surgeons.
  • Collaborate with the team to maintain accurate medical records and document all aspects of patient care.
  • Communicate effectively with pet owners, providing guidance and reassurance throughout.
  • Assist with patient consultations and recheck appointments.
  • Contribute to maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient surgical environment.

Qualifications & Traits

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a veterinary assistant in a clinical setting, with preference to surgical assisting experience.
  • Proficiency in surgical instrument sterilization, surgical suite setup, and post-operative care.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both with the surgical team and pet owners.
  • Compassionate, patient-focused, and dedicated to providing exceptional care to animals.
  • Must be able to lift 30 lbs. and stand for long periods of time.
  • Positive attitude and flexibility.

The successful applicant will join the surgical team with the primary roles of induction and maintenance of anesthesia, pain management, obtaining and assisting with diagnostic imaging, and pre- and post-surgical nursing and client education.

Animal Surgical was established in 1986 and is proud to be the only remaining specialty hospital in Seattle owned and operated by the doctors that work in the clinic every day. Our surgical caseload is primarily focused on orthopedics including arthroscopy, joint replacement and trauma surgery.
